Cinnamon


Cinnamon is a spice that is produced from the inner bark of the cinnamon tree. Dried cinnamon bark has a strong, sweet, and spicy aroma. Cinnamon can be used as a cooking spice, a baking ingredient, an ice cream ingredient, a beverage ingredient, and a cosmetic ingredient.

There are two common types of cinnamon, Ceylon cinnamon and Cassia cinnamon.

  • Ceylon cinnamon comes from the Cinnamomum verum tree. Ceylon cinnamon has a higher quality than Cassia cinnamon. Ceylon cinnamon has a stronger aroma and a sweeter flavor.
  • Cassia cinnamon comes from the Cinnamomum cassia tree. Cassia cinnamon has a lower quality than Ceylon cinnamon. Cassia cinnamon has a weaker aroma and a spicier flavor.
